About the Art of Being Human

Welcome. I’m Jude Smith, an Interfaith minister, spiritual counselor, meditation teacher, and writer who has spent more than twenty years exploring life as a sacred curriculum.

The Art of Being Human is a home for essays, reflections, meditations, and small moments of insight gathered from ordinary life — the beautiful, difficult, tender, awkward, courageous, and sometimes absurd experience of being human.

I write about the places where real life becomes the teacher: grief, joy, aging, love, loss, courage, forgiveness, vulnerability, relationship, spiritual growth, and the quiet moments that reveal who we are becoming.

My work is spiritual, but not dogmatic. It is grounded in lived experience, personal story, deep listening, and the belief that wisdom is not something we have to chase. Often, it is something we remember.

Here, I hope to offer writing that helps you pause, breathe, recognize yourself, and return to what is true.

If this speaks to you, I’d be honored to have you subscribe and walk this path with me.

The Art of Being Human is not meant to be a one-way offering. Wisdom deepens in relationship, and I have long believed in the importance of sangha — spiritual community — where like-minded people can reflect, remember, and grow together.

If something here speaks to you, stirs a memory, opens a question, or helps you see your own life differently, I’d love to hear from you.

You are welcome to leave a thoughtful comment, send me a message, or share a piece with someone who may find it meaningful.
